On Monday August 18 and Tuesday August 19, Alison, Avishek, and Ava attended the Front Range Electrochemistry Workshop at the University of Colorado-Boulder. They learned a lot about the electrochemistry of solid state materials, batteries, and machine learning techniques and made many connections with other electrochemists from the front range.

Beilynn Geiss, our summer REU student, had a successful summer. We are so proud of her accomplishments and will miss her!

Jacob Steeley recently attended the Summer School for Integrated Computational Materials Education at the University of Michigan. He learned about current computational methods used in materials research. During this time, he learned from some of the leading experts in the field of computational materials research including Dr. Wenhao Sun, Dr. Katsuyo Thornton, and Dr. Liang Qi from the University of Michigan and many others. Jacob will be happy to apply what he learned for the benefit of his research and the group!
Congratulations to Rafael Almaraz, Dani Lustig, and Alexis Allamprese on your graduation! All three participated in commencement ceremonies on May 16, 2025.

We had so much fun congratulating Dani on her defense and welcoming Piyush into the group with group dinner at the Rio on May 5, 2025. Congratulations to everyone for finishing another semester!

Ava, Kaiyuan, and Justin are honored to be able to attend the 2025 Bard CEC Workshop at UT Austin and celebrate and recognize Al Bard’s enormous contributions to electrochemistry. They heard stories about how he inspired researchers in the community throughout his career, and heard talks from incredible electrochemists across all kinds of applications: solar fuels, electrocatalysis, batteries, scanning probe microscopy techniques, etc. Congratulations to Justin for giving a great talk about the effects of bandgap renormalization between monolayer and bulk TMDs!
This award honors Teresa Fonseca who was a theoretical chemistry post doc at CSU and is selected by chemistry faculty for an outstanding and excellent piece of research work. We are so proud of Dani Lustig for being awarded this scholarship!
We enjoyed some teambuilding, chatting about science, and learning more about the paper submission process at our group retreat in Estes Park March 28-30. We took a short hike around Lily Lake in Rocky Mountain and had a competitive foosball tournament. It was so much fun!
